Posting works without crediting artist *updt below

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 27, 2013, 11:19 AM
Happens a lot nowadays doesn't it?
People randomly saving pictures of other's anime illustrations , then posting it at their own wall without bothering to credit the original artist.
Or some are even as low as to claim it as their own.

But anyway , I don't know why , but I'm feeling pretty pissed even though I suppose it might seemed like just a trivial issue.
So here's the thing -__-

Previously my younger imouto came to me asking me to help her draw a girl for her school something project.
So I did it anyway , was in a hurry but well , it's my imouto , so why not. I'd probably charge others if they ask me to do something like even a simple doodle when I'm busy anyway.

And what happened next was , when I asked her how did it go the next day , she said , "Oh , I gave it to my friend , she likes it and she wants it"
I was like "huh why?" (though technically speaking I'm burning inside)

She said, " Uhm , well you drew it at the wrong side of the paper , so it can't be used , my friend wants it so I gave it to her"

So next thing was , I went about stating about these copyrights issue and how the heck can she just randomly give away something like that.
But knowing youngsters , I bet she has no idea of how I'm very particular when it comes to my own works copyrights. As do many of the artist here , I'm sure of it.

I soon let that go. But then just a few moments ago , I saw her friend posted that image on her facebook.
It doesn't states who drew it or anything at all. What made me even more pissed is the comments and likes.

 photo copyright_zpsdf3fbcbb.jpg

In the comment :
1st comment : Who drew this? Don't lie to me for I can surely say it's not by you.
2nd (my imouto's friend) : You think one's skill won't improved? It's not like I only know how to draw guys.

I talked to my sister about it , she said "nah , my friend's joking" , Fine , joke or not , I'm not liking this at all.
And what's with the 27 likes?

Christ sake , when I post anything at my profile , only around 6-10++ likes (usual  count)
Damn am I not dealing with this well -___-

Gomen if I sound like a dumb kid who just had my precious toy being snatched away from me. But somehow , I'm pretty mad at the moment.

Guess I better just peace out for now before I decide to rant on more about this crap.

***Update : Link of another website where she posted. Instagram : instagram.com/p/USvDJvEjj1/?fb…

Feel free to copy paste and let google translate do it's work for those who can't understand chinese =/

Sorry to put the link up BIG and BOLD  , for the more I see how even my rushed crappy doodle is getting all the good comments and likes whereas this uploader isn't even trying to say that it does not belongs to her , the more I'm burning up here.

I see her saying "thank you" , so where's the "but actually it isn't drawn by me" part?

Uwah ! Ima watashi wa chooo okotte imasu!!

Though previously I'm just a bit angry of my sister for just giving away something I actually find time to draw for her.

Now's definitely more than that. It might be just a crappy doodle , but apparently I'm very upset that the so called friend she gave my work to isn't a very honest one!

****Update II****

Many thanks to all your comments and concerns , my anger is pretty much almost gone by now o_O
I must say I'm quite a lucky person here to have such supportive friends/watchers (whichever you prefer to go with) like you guys.
Anyhow , thanks for those who helped me commented on her Isntagram.
Seeing that she finally said the art wasn't done by her is sort of a relief for me.
So don't get too worked up over this issue now =] At some point I think some of you actually felt angrier than me. But chill now , as long as she states that the art isn't done by her , I'm fine enough with that. Credit me or not , it's up to her already. I have more important matters to worry about --> have to attend to my assignments now (top priority at the moment) Finishing my human anatomy sculpt in zbrush , if I happened to have a little time left after that , might post some new simple sketch works.

Don't expect anything too great from me , I only have so little time to spend with my own manga style illustrations nowadays.
Thanks for your patience ;___;

Arigato again to those who commented =]

ohh, thats annoying!
I gave out drawings to my friends too, sometimes the authentic one, sometimes the copy...
One thing they have in common is my autograph...
I too, can't stand it if others claim my work like that...

Well , I'm fine as long as she states so in her description that she does not own the picture. But then again , it's not like she had done that either till to date. -__-

Whatever the case is , I just better add her to my blacklist.

So far I've only done the usual muscle sculpt , it definitely does not looks bishie or anything like that haha (You'll have to wait longer to see the character one), it's an assignment for us to study the human muscle forms in details , though if you still want to see it , I'll just post it up in my Journal =] I won't be posting unfinished works in my deviant gallery =>

Huh, that is pretty more like youngsters these days. They are just too young.... To understand what the meaning of appreciating of other people art. And, maybe the lack of knowledge to understand that the internet isn't just about uploading picture that you likes but also crediting the owner if it is necessary.

Maybe you can take a just deep breathe? At least, it is not your imouto that did it to you. Well, since before I have the same thing happen, and the one who did it..... is my little sister -_- Well, she don't uploading the artwork, but she is taking my real drawing into her possession without even asking, which made me angry.

Uhm, well, try to talk with your imouto, your real feeling. Say that you don't like her to give the art that you personally give to her to the other people. Maybe it is okay for her.... But it hurts your feeling. And say it clearly, that even if she got permission to give the art to the other people, say that you don't like the uploader to say that the art is theirs, and not appreciating you as the original artist.
It is better for her to know your real feeling and she can tell her friends directly, than you make a problem with her friends, and maybe created again a little problem, like your imouto hated by her friends, and / or she just hated you because you created a problem that, maybe for youngsters like them, don't even feel guilty that what they done are wrong.

Yeah true. Many just like saving pretty arts but not bothering to at least find out who did the art.

Hmm I'd suggest you get a drawer with a lock. Just keep your masterpieces in there so no one can take it from you. =] Yeah but my imouto's the one who passed my drawing away to someone else. So she's sort of involved in a way. But then again , I guess this is what sisters are for huh , to make your blood boil from time to time -__-

Nah , I'm not the sort that likes to talk out my feelings. Grew up this way , not much heart to heart talk in my family here. That's why I tend to prefer to just draw things out. That's my only way to express my inner thoughts =]

It's ok , I did take that into my consideration. That's why my friendly warning comment didn't contained any harsh words or swearing. Plus someone has already done me a favor by asking her to credit the artist in her Isntagram. So now I'm just waiting for her to rewrite a proper description then I'll be willing to let this drop =]

Well, saving right into your computer isn't a crime, it is uploading without crediting and permission which is a criminal. lol.

Hahaha, well, I pretty sure even if I locked it she will find it eventually.... And try to steal some. Duh. hahaha, yeah. Well, love and hate relationship? Sometimes they are nice enough, but sometimes they can make us angry. Really.

Hahaha, well! Yeah, me too. I am the introvert type, anyway, so I just talk as much as I liked they really need to know.... If they don't need to know, well, it is all in my brain and my heart. XD

Hahaha, well, if you say so! :) I hope you good luck with the case, I know this is not a good things for you to have your draw 'stolen' by your imouto's friends ^^;

Yeah I know a lot of crap like these happens often. And I'm getting tired of it. It's like a never ending tug of war between the fakes and reals.

She may know the drawer , as long as you hide the key well , there's nothing she can do about it =]
Good place to hide something small (taught by a friend of mine long ago) , try sticking it under your desk , not many people would normally looked into that sort of place, trust me =]

Aha , hear hear , I'm sure most artist are like that , cause I do realize normal people do regard us artist as weirdos anyway , due to our way of imagining things which is entirely different from theirs.

Yup thanks for the luck =]

Hmm, yeah, you are right! Maybe I will try that :) Thanks!

Hahaha, well, I don't think like that. Maybe just artist don't like to talk, they lets the ART talk, and not their mouth lol. Or maybe just because I am tired hearing my family babbling over nothing, that makes me think if I talking, I will end up like them. lol.
Ah, but sure, artist have different world than others, as they have pretty wild imagination and all.

Maybe because they think that the art is good, and by showcasing the art, they will get attention. Or maybe they just want to make a problem? lol. I see some art thieves that even if the people already blaming them, they just defend themselves and say like it is nothing to do with them.

Hahaha, well! Then you are my senpais at hiding stuffs lol //slap//

Hahaha, well! Yes, my parents is just like that too, before. Especially when I choose to go to an design college, my mom just said that design is nothing that will make money.... later. She even insist me to take economy or accountant major and just drawing in my free time or take drawing courses outside. But, of course I don't listen to her. Well.... It is my life, and I need to make myself comfortable, not by doing what people want me to do, that will ended up on making me frustated, especially things that will change most of my life.

Some are just mere trolls. Everytime someone comments something like " This isn't your work , please take it off" , then the only reply they'd get from the art thief would be something silly like " No! My art!" -__- I've seen this before in Deviantart , just hard to believe how silly people can be really.

Yeah , I don't think my mom really thinks too highly of any of my illustrations too. Even when I won the first place for one of the small competition of manga drawings , she soon went back to saying stuffs like drawing all day = wasting time. I'm like , wow , seriously mom?
But I've managed to earn a bit money with 2 commissions at my previous sem break , hopefully she'd changed her mind about illustrations -_-

For me personally , I too prefer to work with things I enjoy. Sure I may be poor compared to the ones that holds occupation such as lawyers and doctors , but well , at least I'm enjoying what I'm working with =x

I make art for presents on a regular basis and if I found someone claiming it as their own I think I would prolly rage till the end of the world!

It makes my blood boil seeing art theft. I don't see why people just can't understand that not crediting taking the credit for themselves is just wrong!

If you save an image from the internet and upload it somewhere else without the artists name because you just couldn't be bothered; I suggest get bothered and DO IT!

DO NOT CREDIT YOURSELF AS THE ARTIST!
DO NOT SIMPLY UPLOAD IT WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL ARTIST'S NAME!
DO NOT STEAL OTHERS ARTWORK!

If people think that the original artist is ranting on about copyright and stuff involving their art; it's because its their stuff and they - NOT the person who uploaded it! is the one who gets to decide what to do with it, its for a good reason and they are probably annoyed at this.

If she still hasn't credited you, I'd say it's about time that you released the demon inside. It's been 2-3 weeks and she's already been told. I hope (I really hope) that she realises that she's done something wrong.

I hope that nothing like this happens to you again.

Yes U hate seeing art thieves having things their way.
Although I'm not entirely sure if I can say she's an art thief here , just that it would had been much better if she states it clearly in the description that this work does not belongs to her.

Maybe she might be joking in her comment afterall , but to other people who doesn't knows the story of how did this work came to her hand , they might get the wrong idea that she's actually the artist for the way she replies to the compliments with just "Thank you" and not even trying to state that "it isn't drawn by me" after that. That's the only part that is bothering me. Afterall , this is just like a little present/help for my sister assignment , it wasn't within my expectation that my work would end up in her friend's hand.

Nah , I'll give her some time , yes she uploaded it 2 weeks ago , but I just spotted it last night as I went to my sister's profile to message her. Yeah , I do hope she'll learn a thing or two about the importance of copyrights this time.

Arigato for your concerns though =] Plus I think it's best you don't go to facebook as these kind of random posting without crediting artists happens a lot in facebook's group anime fan page. You'll probably feel very angry seeing how spoiled most of these group admins are. Thanks once again , and it probably won't happen again as I decided that I won't be doing anymore FOC assignments for anyone henceforth.

It's a good thing that I don't have facebook. Some people just gape at me and ask me "How can you possibly live without it. I'm actually proud that I don't have an account on it. I've seen so many people get angry over the things others have posted on it. And if I actually do get an account on there and post art, I'll definitely credit the original artist.

I worry a lot about copyrighted artwork, even at school. Sometimes my friends will show my art to others and I tag along with them to make sure that they credit me (is that bad?), or if people look through my sketch book and see drawings from my other siblings I always point and tell them which ones weren't by me and say which ones were by my siblings.

Her friend may be a bit too young to know about copyright, but she should really say that its yours and not just say "thank you" without it. I did it even when I didn't know about copyright. I just thought that was respectful and the right thing to do.

Thank you for appreciating my concerns and I hope that this situation gets under control quickly.

That's okay , at least I can see you want your copyrights to be respected and you too are respecting other's copyrights. =]

Yeah same here , I still haven't really gotten a reply from her yet , but I guess I do have other stuffs to focus rather than fretting over an immature action of a 16 year old. (but I'm still hoping she'll at least state that the drawing does not belongs to her , she doesn't even needs to credit me)
